I started with a Commodore 64, writing code at the kitchen table, back when hospitals and rehabilitation filled most of my week. Programming gave me something I was missing in the rest of my life: a sense of agency. If I wrote the code well, the program worked. If not, it threw an error. But it was my error, and I could fix it.
